Contextual Intelligence / The Three Cs

Reading and adapting to local culture, customs, and communication.

Definition

Contextual intelligence is the ability to read a specific business and cultural context and adapt strategy and execution to it, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all playbook. Alton Worldwide expresses it as the Three Cs — Culture, Customs, and Communication — the lens through which cross-border strategy, turnarounds, and market entry are executed.

Context

Contextual intelligence is what separates advisors who have actually operated across borders from those applying a developed-market template everywhere. The Three Cs explain why the same strategy succeeds in one market and fails in another, and why local relationships and communication often matter more than the financial model in emerging-markets work.
